  • received her law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She also holds a Ph.D. from the University of Kansas and a Master’s Degree from the University of New Mexico;
  • has been admitted to practice in the state courts of North Carolina, as well as the federal district courts in the eastern and middle districts of North Carolina. She is a member of the Pitt County Bar Association, the North Carolina Advocates for Justice, the National Employment Lawyers Association (NELA), and the North Carolina Bar Association. She is a past chair of the Employment Law section of the North Carolina Advocates for Justice, and currently serves as a council member to the Labor & Employment Law Section of the North Carolina Bar Association;
  • is a contract attorney for the North Carolina Association of Educators, representing public school employees throughout North Carolina;
  • has tried cases before juries in Pitt, Craven, Beaufort, Lenoir, Wilson, and Hertford counties in North Carolina, among others, and before federal juries in the eastern district of North Carolina. She has done numerous hearings for state employees before the N.C. Office of Administrative Hearings and before many local N.C. Boards of Education;
  • has resolved numerous other employment matters by settlement agreement;
  • has served as an organizational communication consultant for several large organizations;
  • is certified as a mediator by the North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission to conduct mediations for N.C. Superior court cases and certified as a mediator by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina;
  • has worked as a mediator and as a mediation trainer for the Mediation Center of Eastern North Carolina;

Mary-Ann Leon grew up in Southern California and now resides in Greenville, North Carolina with her husband and son.
